Ceiling Repair in St. Petersburg, FL

Ceiling Repair · St. Petersburg, FL

A ceiling patch matched to the texture around it

Ceiling repair covers the damage you see when you look up. A crack runs across the living room, or a brown ring spreads over the hallway after a leak. Nail heads show through the paint, or a drywall seam drops and the tape hangs loose. We fix the board, then match the texture and paint so the repair blends in.

Flow Home Services is a veteran-owned handyman and remodeling company based in St. Petersburg. Ceilings are the overhead side of our drywall repair work, in homes and condos across Pinellas County. They are less forgiving than walls, because window light skims across them and shows every seam. Estimates are free, so text a photo of the ceiling to (727) 404-7164.

Drywall Ceiling Repair for Cracks, Nail Pops and Holes

Ceiling cracks tend to follow a drywall seam or run out from a corner. A coat of paint or a bead of caulk hides one for a while, and then it opens again. Our ceiling crack repair cuts out the loose tape, tapes the seam again and feathers the compound out wide.

Nail pops are the small round bumps that show up in a line across a ceiling. The nail has backed out of the framing. We drive a screw beside it, set the nail back and cover both with compound.

Holes get a ceiling patch. We cut the damage square, set backing behind it and fit new board in. That includes the access holes other trades leave behind.

Water Damaged Ceiling Repair After a Leak

A brown ring or a soft, bulging spot means water came through from above. The source might be a roof leak, an upstairs bathroom or an AC drain line. Finding and fixing that source is not our work.

Water damaged ceiling repair starts once the leak is stopped and the ceiling is dry. Board that went soft or started to sag gets cut out back to solid drywall. New board goes in, screwed to the framing, then taped and finished flat.

Any faint ring left around the patch gets a stain-blocking primer before paint. That keeps the old stain from bleeding through the new coat. We ask about the leak at the estimate, because a patch under an active leak stains again.

Ceiling Texture Repair in Older St. Petersburg Homes

Census figures put the median year built for St. Petersburg homes at 1969. About 7 in 10 homes in the city went up before 1980. Textured ceilings and decades of old patches are common in houses that age. If your home has an older plaster ceiling, we assess it at the estimate.

Ceiling texture repair means matching what is already up there: knockdown, orange peel or a smooth skim coat. We try the mix on a scrap of board, then carry the texture past the patch edge. Touch-up paint rarely matches an older ceiling, so we prime the repair and paint the whole ceiling. If the walls need fresh color too, add interior painting to the list.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says textured paint and ceiling patching compounds may contain asbestos. Their use was banned in 1977, and sanding, scraping or drilling those surfaces may release it. So a textured ceiling from before the mid 1980s, or one you cannot date, gets tested by a professional first. If you want the texture off the whole ceiling, that is popcorn ceiling removal.

FAQ

Ceiling Repair Questions, Answered

Common questions about ceiling repair across St. Petersburg and Pinellas County. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (727) 404-7164

What does ceiling repair cost?
Estimates are free, and the price comes from looking at the ceiling. It moves with the size and number of damaged spots and how high the ceiling is. Replacing board, matching texture and painting the whole ceiling add to it. Text photos to (727) 404-7164 to get an estimate started.
How long does a ceiling repair take?
The compound sets the pace. Each thin coat has to harden before the next one goes on, and texture and paint come last. A small ceiling patch can still need more than one visit, and we lay out the schedule at the estimate.
Can you fix a sagging ceiling?
Often, yes, when the drywall itself has come loose from the framing or gone soft from a leak. Loose panels get screwed back up tight, and soft or bowed board gets replaced. A ceiling that sags because the framing above it moved is a structural problem, and that is not our work. If we see that, we tell you before any repair starts.
What about a water stain on an old popcorn ceiling?
The leak gets fixed first, and then the texture gets tested. Water-damaged sprayed ceiling material may release asbestos fibers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says. Testing is never our work, and Florida regulates asbestos surveys and removal as a separate trade. We do not scrape, sand or cut into a ceiling that tests positive.
Do I need a permit to repair a ceiling in St. Petersburg?
St. Petersburg's List of Exempted Permits includes minor ceiling finish repair, up to 100 square feet in all. The exemption does not apply when the work affects a load bearing wall or a fire rated separation. Homes in a flood zone still submit a cost breakdown, and historic district homes may not be exempt. That is the city's general rule, so confirm with the city, and we walk through it at the estimate.
Who does ceiling repair near me in St. Petersburg?
Flow Home Services is based in St. Petersburg and takes ceiling repairs across the city. We also drive to Largo, Clearwater, Pinellas Park, Seminole, Gulfport and the beach towns. We work in houses and condos, and a condo association sets its own rules for work inside units. Text a photo of the ceiling to (727) 404-7164 for a free estimate.

Christian and his team did an incredible job at building our backyard shed. This was an involved job that other handymen would not touch. The project consisted of framing, siding, roofing, painting, securing into concrete, etc. his skill and attention to detail was impressive. Christian was very reliable and showed up on time everyday ready to work. In addition, Christian updated us numerous times throughout the day with progress pictures and videos as we were traveling during the holidays. The team cleaned up and we can home to a fully built 10x14 ‘ shed/garage. If you are looking for a reliable, skilled handyman/builder, look no further.
