Cabinet painting puts a new color on the kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanity cabinets you already have. People call cabinet painters when the boxes are solid but the finish looks dated. We paint the doors, drawer fronts, face frames and the box sides you can see. Most of the steps happen before the first finish coat, because good prep is what makes the paint last.
Flow Home Services is a veteran-owned handyman and remodeling company based in St. Petersburg. If the walls, ceilings, trim or doors need color too, add interior painting to the same job. When the layout has to change, the job becomes a kitchen remodel. Text photos of your cabinets to (727) 404-7164 for a free estimate.

The room gets protected first. We cover the floors and appliances and tape off the walls around the cabinets. The doors, drawers and hardware come off next. Each piece gets a label, so it goes back in the same spot.
Cleaning comes after that. Kitchen grease is the usual reason a cabinet finish fails, so every door, drawer front and face frame gets degreased. We fill dings and open joints and let the filler set. A scuff-sand dulls the old finish so the primer has something to grip.
A bonding primer goes on, then two finish coats. Each coat needs dry time before the next one, so the job runs over several days. Then the doors get rehung and adjusted until the gaps line up. Last, your hardware goes back on, or the new pulls you picked.
Solid wood, MDF and cabinets painted before take paint well. Bathroom vanity cabinets get the same steps as a kitchen, on a smaller scale. Under a sink, we check the cabinet floor for particleboard that swelled with water.
Some cabinets are past paint. Peeling thermofoil and damaged laminate usually do not hold a new finish, and neither does swollen particleboard. We look the cabinets over at the estimate. When the boxes are failing, we point you to cabinet installation instead.
Census figures put the median year built for St. Petersburg homes at 1969. About 7 in 10 homes in the city were built before 1980. Cabinets in a house that age may be original, or painted more than once.
EPA says homes built before 1978 may have lead-based paint. In 1978, the federal government banned the sale of lead-based paint for use in homes. EPA adds that lead-based paint in good shape is usually not a problem.
Renovation or repair work that disturbs painted surfaces in older homes may create large amounts of lead dust, EPA says. Its advice is to find out whether your home has lead-based paint before a painting project. So in a pre-1978 home, original painted or finished cabinets get a lead test before any sanding. We never sand, scrape or strip a finish that tests positive.

Christian and his team did an incredible job at building our backyard shed. This was an involved job that other handymen would not touch. The project consisted of framing, siding, roofing, painting, securing into concrete, etc. his skill and attention to detail was impressive. Christian was very reliable and showed up on time everyday ready to work. In addition, Christian updated us numerous times throughout the day with progress pictures and videos as we were traveling during the holidays. The team cleaned up and we can home to a fully built 10x14 ‘ shed/garage. If you are looking for a reliable, skilled handyman/builder, look no further. We will be using Flow Home Services again soon.
