Safety Harbor grew up fast in the 1980s. The city's own library history puts the population at 6,461 in 1980 and 15,124 in 1990. Census counts line up with that. About 48 percent of the homes in town went up between 1980 and 1989. Another 22 percent date to the 1970s. Those houses are 40 to 55 years old now. Plenty still have the bathroom they were built with.
Flow Home Services is a handyman and remodeling company based in St. Petersburg. Safety Harbor sits at the north edge of the area we cover. We drive up from St. Pete for the work. We start with the repair list: doors, drywall, paint, trim, tile, mounting and hardware. We also do full bathroom remodels and kitchen updates in the same house. Call or text (727) 404-7164 and send a few photos for a free estimate.

Census counts put 7,602 housing units in Safety Harbor. About 3,641 of them went up between 1980 and 1989. Another 1,698 date to the 1970s. Roughly 77 percent of the housing here was already standing by 1989. Two thirds of it is single family detached.
A house that age builds a list. Hollow core doors stop latching in the summer. Wall corners crack where the drywall was taped. Trim splits, hinges wear out, and the caulk around the tub gives up. None of that is a big job on its own.
We hang new interior and exterior doors, patch and texture walls, repaint rooms and set tile. Mounting and hardware swaps ride along on the same visit. Sellers and agents getting a Safety Harbor house ready to list often hand us the punch list whole.
Downtown Safety Harbor holds the oldest housing in the city. Census counts only 62 units built in 1939 or earlier and about 501 built before 1970. Those older homes near Main Street have small bathrooms and small kitchens. The city sits on Old Tampa Bay. Downtown, the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa stands over the Espiritu Santo mineral springs. Philippe Park, the oldest park in Pinellas County, runs along a mile of the bay shoreline north of town.
A tile shower is the job people here ask for most. We set large format porcelain on the walls and build a niche for bottles. An uncoupling and waterproofing membrane goes under the floor tile. A vanity, a mirror, fresh trim and paint finish the room. Where a tub comes out, the result is a tiled walk-in shower in the same footprint.
Kitchens in these homes follow the same pattern. Cabinets, a countertop, a tile backsplash, new flooring and paint change the room without moving a wall. About 5.8 percent of housing units here sit in buildings with 20 or more units. Condo kitchens come up too. Around 84 percent of homes in town are owner occupied. Most of this work is for people who plan to stay put.
The 2024 hurricane season left a mark on Safety Harbor. The city reports significant damage to Waterfront Park, the pier, the marina and the living shoreline. Part of the boardwalk took damage too. The pier was destroyed during Hurricane Helene in September 2024. It reopened to the public on August 27, 2026, and the boardwalk section over Mullet Creek reopened in March 2026.
Away from the water, the city says sidewalk damage was city-wide. It points to downed trees and to washouts from flooding. On North Bay Hills Boulevard the roadway eroded during Hurricane Milton. The weir at Swan Lake failed in the same storm and drained the lake.
If water reached the inside of your house, the finish work is the part we do. That means drywall cut out, replaced and textured, floors laid back down, doors rehung and rooms painted. A soaked bathroom usually comes back as a remodel rather than a patch. Insurance and flood paperwork stay with you and your carrier.
Safety Harbor is the farthest north town on our list. Everything runs out of our St. Petersburg base. We drive up, look at the job, talk through the options and leave you a written estimate.
Permits in town run through the city's Building Division at 750 Main Street. Since May 1, 2021, city permit and inspection work has been under an agreement with Pinellas County. Some permit types go to Pinellas County Building Services at 440 Court Street in Clearwater. A home in a Special Flood Hazard Area gets an extra city review first. Safety Harbor calls that the 49 percent rule. Confirm your own address with the city.

Christian and his team did an incredible job at building our backyard shed. This was an involved job that other handymen would not touch. The project consisted of framing, siding, roofing, painting, securing into concrete, etc. his skill and attention to detail was impressive. Christian was very reliable and showed up on time everyday ready to work. In addition, Christian updated us numerous times throughout the day with progress pictures and videos as we were traveling during the holidays.
